EvenMate RC

This software module implements a state-of-the-art remote control which is able to drive one or more audio boxes.  It is completely coded in C++ and Assembler. It is FAST and its not resource demanding.
This page assumes basic knowledge of Eventide audio boxes and its hardware remote control EVE/NET.

Highlight Features:

  • Basic Functions:
They are similar to the functions found in the hardware remote control.

  • Programmable MIDI Buttons and Sliders:
The main window has two tabs, Midi 1 and Midi 2 where MIDI programmable sliders & buttons incorporate a new dimension in remote control.

  • Knob software emulation:
Considered by many users the heart of the audio box front panel, the knob is the most challenging element from a software emulation point of view. After testing many rotary software alternatives we completely abandoned this approach. We were unable to find a realistic way of mimicking the hardware just spinning a mouse cursor over a wheel-like software control.
The solution that satisfied even the most demanding expectations was a centered slider with a customized behavior. When the slider handle is dragged up or down from the resting center position it mimics the knob continuously turning right or left.
The rotational speed is a function of how far the handle is dragged from its center resting position.
In order to improve accuracy the emulated rotational speed/handle displacement ratio is not linear. At each end of the slider the ratio is high, helping a rough but fast move, near the center it is low allowing an slow but accurate final approach to the desired value.

When the slider handle is released at any point it will automatically go to its center resting position.

  • Griffin Powermate USB Knob ready:
For those who really think the knob software emulation is not enough and they will miss the "touchable" thing, the software has been developed to work with the optional Griffin Powermate USB knob (native support) .

  • 8 level meters ready:
The remote control module incorporates support for up to 8 level meters. Current H8000/A firmware cannot drive more than 4 level meters simultaneously but we consider this situation might be easily solved in the near future with a firmware upgrade.

  • Multi-instance:
This module can be run more than once simultaneously.
One instance is able to handle mirrored audio boxes simultaneously and is also able to alternate among boxes having different unit IDs.
Two different instances can handle independent audio boxes simultaneously.

  • Active Screen:
Observers probably already noticed that there are no Soft Buttons, but they are right there; just click the mouse pointer on the screen soft buttons; they work!

The screen has programmed several sensitive areas and special behaviors. The idea was to incorporate as much functionality as possible in the screen, accessible using the mouse. In this way the classic Eventide screen becomes alive and pretty much behaves like a real interactive system window.

  1. A/B: If your audio box has 2 DSPs clicking your mouse in this area (see picture) has the same effect as pressing the A/B button.

  2. PARAMETER: Clicking your mouse in this area (see picture) has the same effect as pressing the PARAMETER button.

  3. Last main command: There are 4 main commands; SETUP, LEVELS, PROGRAM & PARAMETER. The software "remembers" the last main command used, in this way clicking your mouse in these areas (see picture) has the same effect as pressing the last main command again. This feature is very useful when there are more than 4 softpages i.e. the SETUP pages.

  4. Softpages: Clicking your mouse in these 4 areas (see picture) has the same effect as pressing the corresponding front panel soft button.

  5. Positional commands: Most of the time the screen has one field receiving the focus (an Info page is an exception). The focus can be moved to another field using the positional commands (4 dark grey arrow buttons). The screen implements the positional commands as follows:
       a) [click mouse] - drag left    - [release mouse] = Grey Left arrow button
       b) [click mouse] - drag right  - [release mouse] = Grey Right arrow button
       c) [click mouse] - drag up     - [release mouse] = Grey Up arrow button
       d) [click mouse] - drag down - [release mouse] = Grey Down arrow button

  6. Value commands: The field that has the focus is the one that can receive value commands. Value commands can be generated by the knob software emulation, the optional Griffing USB knob, the numeric keypad, and the white up and down arrow buttons. The active screen implements a new value command responding to the mouse wheel. The field that has the focus increments or decrements its value according to the received mouse wheel events.

  7. SELECT: Click your mouse in the field area, it has the same effect as pressing the SELECT button.

  8. Drag & Drop: The screen accepts SIG file drops. They are sent to the audio box which will load and execute them in the default DSP.
